Abstract
“Lejana” was published in February 1948 in Cabalgata, a monthly arts and literature magazine based in Buenos Aires, and later appeared (in 1951) as the third story in Bestiario.
Despite being one of Julio Cortázar’s best-known stories, there are few academic articles devoted entirely to it, possibly because at first glance it seems there is nothing more to add to the master’s text, unless one offers a sociological interpretation—as in the case of Cuevas Aro’s recent article—a psychoanalytic one, or one linked to the classic fantastical themes of the double or the passages, which have been written about ad nauseam.
